COVID-19 Los Angeles Resources & Information
Stay Safe & Informed
The LA Chapter is here to help prepare our community members as much as we can during this time. We have compiled a list of general and API-specific resources, and will be updating the page frequently as more resources become available.
Current State of Affairs
Los Angeles County is employing a “Safer at Home” emergency order for all residents. Stay up to date with all of the latest news on the official LA county Coronavirus page.
Confirmed Cases in LA County: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/
Stay on top of the latest news, restrictions, and regulations, and ensure you and your friends/family are following them. UCLA Health has an informative page on the latest updates to COVID-19 and what it means for the state of California and LA County.
LA County has created a FAQ page to answer any questions regarding the order as well.
If you or someone you know believes they have COVID-19
Isolate and quarantine yourself for at least 14 days.
Immediately contact your doctor- they will advise you with the next steps to take.
If it is an emergency, call 911 or your local first responders.
Unemployment Assistance
Unemployment benefits have expanded with the recent passing of sweeping national legislation. If you find yourself out of a job and in need of assistance, please see the resources below.
Officially file for unemployment under the California Employment Development Department. They have a page dedicated to COVID-19-related losses. You will then be informed what the next steps are in receiving aid.
KQED recently published an article called Emergency Funds for Freelancers, Creatives Losing Income During Coronavirus. It lists many grants, funds, and other sources for relief for those working in art, television, the restaurant industry, and more.
PbP-LA is now offering services to those who have experienced unemployment due to COVID-19 by reviewing resumes, helping to complete job applications and building LinkedIn profiles. If you are interested in any of the mentioned services, please fill out our Professional Assistance form.
#WeAreNotAVirus
It deeply saddens us to hear of API community members experiencing acts of racism and xenophobia, during this crisis and at any time. We want to remind our community that despite this sinister trend based on prejudice, we will always be stronger in passion and people than hate and injustice. If you or anyone you know has encountered an act of API hate, you may report the incident to the Stop AAPI Hate initiative by the Asian Pacific Policy & Planning Council.
Local nonprofits and organizations have also provided some helpful resources:
AA and NHPI In-Language Resources for COVID-19 (Resources in multiple languages) provided by the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF)
Community Care During COVID-19: A Message To and From AAPIs (Resources in multiple languages) provided by AAPIs for Civic Empowerment-Education Fund (AAPI FORCE-EF)
